Man Ray
Man Ray worked in different types of media in art. He did drawings, paintings, photography, and even films. Man Ray is well known for being a part of the Surrealism and Dadaism movement, which in a way challenged the way photography was viewed in the arts. His work is well rounded but from looking at his photographs, he focuses on portraits of people. He decides to show just someones face, or some parts of the body, or has them covered in some way, or adds different objects to them.
The people he chose to photograph may have been people he knew, he found, or maybe they were models. People take photos of people for many reasons. If they are people we want to remember or people that peak our interest, or even them modeling some item of clothing or just being themselves. I can only assume Ray wanted to capture certain people because he thought they would make good photographs, or he knew them. He was also apart of those two movements which I can connect to him maybe wanting to capture people in photos not for the way they looked, but the way they felt (a more mental aspect) and not the "normal" way of portraits were made.

Magnolia (Double Exposure) was intriguing for me since there is more than one thing happening and it is not the usual photo of people we see. The way he chose to capture this image, the placement of the objects is a nice change to see. The flower that takes over most of the space in the image but in the background we have someones eyes. This image is interesting since there could be several meanings that could describe this image. I feel that this could mean some sort of purity, and I am assuming the person in the back is a woman so this could connect to womanhood. The eyes also represent the window to the soul, but they could just be representing her emotions. It could mean that she is a gentle, pure person.
