What Photography Means To Me...

The meaning of photography will never be the same for everyone. Photography can mean all sorts of things that doesn't't necessarily have to be materialistic, it can be emotional as well. Marvin Heiferman explains the changes photography does to someone's perception of objects, time, and even ourselves. When he mentions photography can change the way we view ourselves, it meant that we decide how we want to look in a photo and instruct how we want the photo to be taken. We choose to have our photo taken a certain way because that is how we want others to view us and remember us by. Although our memory can be changed by the photos from our past since those images do not show the entire story, only those we decided to capture in time.

Photography to me is like a time capsule that takes me on a nostalgic journey. I always like to take pictures of things I want to remember because of the emotions I felt when that photo was taken. I like to look back and reminiscence over happiness I felt back when I was with my friends or family. Photography helps me remember the things that were in my life at some point and made an impression on me that I won't forget, but the photo will vividly bring back those memories. I also enhance photographs and transform them to different worlds with drawings. Photography to me is also a way to let my imagination flow and to practice my drawing skills. I try to recreate the photos and add fictional aspects to change the original intent of the image or just to practice my drawing skills.
